May be my new favorite music genre. The overall lack of lyrics really improves songs alot, most of the time, and in techno they just focus on making a damn great beat. Heres some good artists and songs by them.
oh yeah, I know, when I heard HBFS by daft punk, I remembered I heard that on stronger by kanye west, he totally stole it and ****ed it up. The DP version is the original and best.
You punch in the name of a band or artist and then its like a specified constant music radio station. Very cool. You can also skip 6 songs per hour, per station. and you can have a lot of similar stations :P
oh,. I use itunes for my music. THinking you do as well? '
My biggest complaint with my ipod is that you are unable to take custom made equalizers from the computer on itunes and put it on your ipod. I have like 20 custom eq's and they are really damn good.
Its like, only very similar stuff, so its a great way to find new music. Like right now, youre new to techno, so you wouldnt have a lot. This would give you unlimited stuff to hear.
Especially with modern rock, stuff like Muse and others dont get a lot of radio airplay, so i wouldnt hear them without pandora
yeah, radio is my tool for finding new stuff. Cause unless I come across helpful suggestions online to new artists, I wouldnt know of great music. So radio if I hear a good song Ill know about it.
I tried listening to some of your techno but couldn't get through it. Just seems dull.
Hahaha, classical techno (note this sucks too) but at least I have huge respect for the difficulty. (also wtf. it's like a concert band with cellos.)
For examples of music that I actually enjoy
Lionel Loueke doing a wicked solo. Some kind of fusion of jazz and traditional Benin folk music.
Flecktones playing Jeff Coffin's "Mad Hatter Rides Again" Victor Wooten is a phenomenal bass player, jeff is phenomenal sax player (he's playing 2 saxophones at the same time at one point), and Bela Fleck is a kickass banjo player plus he's pretty much a musical prophet. Futureman on his synth-drummitar deserves special mention... because he is Futureman. I could probably just put a Victor Wooten bass groove on loop and listen to that instead of techno, but it really gets interesting with jeff's soloing.
Gershwin, Rhapsody in Blue. I actually heard a live outdoor performance of this last night, and it's great. The sound quality of this recording isn't great unfortunately (fair bit of static) but played+conducted by Leonard Bernstein is probably the most legendary performance of that piece in history. Great combination of jazz rhythms and groove in a piece of classical music.
I'm pretty sure I've raved about this in another thread, so I don't think I need to repeat. The whole piece takes 5 videos, but it's worth every minute. If you are impatient and want instant gratification go to 3/5 and jump to 3:55 for the beginning of the slow movement, but the whole thing is great. When I was searching, I was like hmmmm I'll probably find some out of tune high school orchestra... but then I see Moscow Symphony, and I start listening... and damn, it's a better recording than the one I have on CD. daamn. I'm also hearing this one again live this week :)
so yeah, that's what I'm into instead of techno.

I love the sound of a full orchestra. It's so big. Big music is best
that sax guy was ridiculous.
Do you like rush oboe? I would think you would. They're kind of a super group much like a couple of those you posted, as in the members each spend lots of time showing off they're skills on long and awesome solos. They're more rock than jazz, but they have really cool stuff too. Look up Neil Pearts live drum solos, they las like 8 minutes and at some point he usually signals this jazz track to play with him. I saw it on Saturday, was really cool
